Connecting people in remote and off-grid locations to emergency help — anywhere in North America
When traditional cellular networks are out of reach, lives still depend on the ability to reach 9-1-1. Northern911’s Satellite 9-1-1 Services bridge that gap by providing reliable emergency connectivity for satellite device users across Canada and the United States.
Through secure text-based communication, our APCO-certified 9-1-1 Telecommunicators receive alerts from satellite networks, confirm location, and connect users to the appropriate emergency agency — ensuring help is dispatched even from the most remote environments.
How It Works
- When a satellite user sends a 9-1-1 message, the event is routed to Northern911’s secure Emergency Communication Center.
- A two-way text session is established between the user and a trained 9-1-1 Telecommunicator.
- The Telecommunicator verifies location and determines the appropriate emergency service – police, fire, or ambulance.
- Northern911 transfers the call to the correct PSAP on the 9-1-1 network whenever available, remaining on the line to relay information in real time until the situation is resolved.
- If the user becomes unresponsive, Northern911 continues to coordinate through lawful access channels and location services to ensure emergency agencies receive all available information.
