Connecting People, Technology, and Trust in Life’s Most Critical Moments
When an emergency happens, whether someone dials 9-1-1, presses a panic button, or triggers a connected device, every second counts. Behind every one of those seconds is a person: calm, compassionate, and ready to help.
At Northern911, we exist to help people through their most critical moments: with empathy, speed, and precision. Every call we take, every partnership we build, and every innovation we advance is rooted in one purpose: keeping people safe when it matters most.
Who We Are
Northern911 is a trusted public safety partner providing 9-1-1, emergency monitoring, and connected safety services across North America.
Our APCO-certified 9-1-1 Telecommunicators and TMA certified monitoring agents, advanced technology infrastructure, and decades of operational excellence make us a leader in reliable, human-centered emergency communication.
From traditional 9-1-1 call taking to connected-vehicle monitoring and IoT safety solutions, we connect people and technology to the help they need quickly, accurately, and with care.
Our Values
Purpose Over Pride
We’re doers. We roll up our sleeves every day to make a difference in moments that matter most. No task is too big or too small when lives are on the line.
Trust and Safety
We’re committed to doing the right thing, even when no one’s watching. The trust of our clients, partners, and public safety agencies is earned through accountability, integrity, and care.
Urgency with Care
Every second counts, and we move quickly without ever compromising quality.
Pioneering Spirit
We challenge the ordinary. We don’t wait for change; we create it. From developing early default routing for 9-1-1 calls to launching NG9-1-1 services, we continually challenge the ordinary to strengthen public safety.
A Legacy of Firsts
Northern911’s roots trace back to 1954 delivering communication services to northern communities. By the 1960s, we were dispatching fire services and building the foundations of our 24/7 Central Station, monitoring alarms and life-safety systems for homes and businesses. That expertise in continuous monitoring and emergency escalation laid the groundwork for our evolution into a 9-1-1 PSAP, first as a secondary center, and later as a designated primary PSAP in 2002.
Our history is defined by innovation in life-safety communications:
2003 – Introduced 9-1-1 default routing in the United States, ensuring no emergency call goes unanswered.
2005 – Partnered with the CRTC and public safety leaders to pioneer Canada’s first nomadic VoIP 9-1-1 service.
2010s – Expanded into connected-vehicle and telematics emergency response, serving drivers and fleets across the continent.
2024 – One of the first PSAPs in Canada to launch NG9-1-1 services, advancing the country’s move toward fully digital emergency communications.
Today, Northern911 bridges the gap between technology and emergency response, supporting wireless, VoIP, satellite, IoT, and app-based systems so help is always within reach.
Our People and Culture
Northern911’s greatest strength is our people. We are a team of APCO-certified professionals united by compassion, precision, and purpose.
Our Telecommunicators are bilingual in English and French, and we provide access to translation in more than 170 languages to ensure every caller is understood.
We foster a culture of respect, learning, and teamwork. Whether handling a 9-1-1 call, supporting a new technology partner, or guiding a community through a crisis, our people bring calm, professionalism, and care to every interaction.
The Future of Safety
In 2025, Northern911 joined forces with RapidSOS to accelerate innovation and extend our mission across North America. Together, we unite human expertise with intelligent data to make emergency response faster, more accurate, and more connected than ever before.
Our mission remains the same:
To help every person in their moment of greatest need, with trust, urgency, and heart.
